South Pacific Seabird Projects
As well as our projects within the Hawaiian Islands, ARC also conducts work across the South Pacific. The projects are focused on rapid assessments of seabird populations (including the creation of baseline population data and distribution maps), partnership building and in-country training. For the latter, our seabird experts arrange workshops for interested partner organisations where they impart their knowledge on monitoring techniques, data management and scientific analysis and report writing. Ultimately the aim of these projects is to help initiate long term seabird projects in countries where these do not currently exist to help broaden seabird conservation initiatives across the Pacific. The 2025 release of the Pacific Seabirds Survey and monitoring Manual - co-written by our Science Director - helps create the blueprint for these initiatives.
