MADISON WOODWARD – SEABIRD TECHNICIAN
Madison’s interest in and appreciation for nature and conservation began at a young age in the Appalachian Mountains, where she backpacked in the forests, camped under stars, and canoed down the Shenandoah River. These early expereinces fostered a deep connection with the outdoors. During her late teens and early adulthood, she worked at an outdoor adventure park, leading visitors through rope courses, ziplines, and a giant swing. The exposure to outdoor recreational activities inspired her to pursue her undergraduate capstone in environmental education by integrating art into science through a series of art-based classes on climate change. After graduating with a B.A.in Environmental Studies, she began her career in conservation at Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge on Maui. She then spent her next year at the Kaua'i National Wildlife Refuge Complex (KNWRC), where she contributed to the environmental education team, worked in the native plant nursery, led habitat restoration efforts, and assisted with avian botulism surveys. Following this, she worked as a seasonal technician at Save Our Shearwaters, specializing in wildlife rehabilitation. Madison returned to KNWRC as a temporary Environmental Education Coordinator, before beginning her current journey with ARC. In her down time, she loves to chill at the beach, explore new hiking trails, create different types of arts and crafts, listen to music and audiobooks, care for her plants, and spend time with friends and family.
