Joey brings a diverse skill set to ARC as a multimedia designer. He develops web, video, and print media and has four years of seabird colony monitoring experience, blending creative storytelling with hands-on conservation work. A certified UAV pilot, Joey integrates field research, design, and multimedia to support Hawaiian wildlife conservation and public outreach.
With 20 years as a professional artist, multimedia designer, and web developer, he has also worked extensively in conservation biology, conducting wildlife field research and management with species including endangered Hawaiian birds, Northern Spotted Owls, Black-backed Woodpeckers, New World Warblers, Western Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Canada Geese, Pheasants, and various small mammals.
An active member of the Wild Lens Collective, Joey has co-directed and edited several short films, including Aikhag – A Personal Journey, A New Message for Smokey, and Souls of the Vermilion Sea: Searching for the Vaquita, highlighting the intersection of art and environmental conservation.
Joey is interested in exploring how novel drone technology, GIS, and drone mapping can enhance conservation research and storytelling. He hopes to combine these tools with his design and multimedia skills on future projects to create engaging, data-driven narratives that connect the public with environmental science and Hawaiian wildlife.
