Recovering Tracking Devices of Albatross on Lehua Islet
Lehua Islet is home to breeding colonies of both mōlī (Laysan Albatross) and kaʻupu (Black-footed Albatross). In January 2025, small tracking devices were attached to individuals from both species to better understand their key foraging areas, and a year later the team returned to recover them. By this time of year, many eggs had already hatched, while others were just beginning to do so. Data collected from these tags will help assess foraging distributions and potential overlaps with fisheries, contributing to a project led by Oikonos Ecosystem Knowledge and funded by NFWF and the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation.
